Welcome to Alamogordo

Hey and welcome back!

After leaving our hotel in Santa Fe our longest car ride began. Without any stops it would have been six hours non-stop driving. For me it would have been not that bad because I am used to drive often and long but I was actually pleased that we made some stops. First we stopped at Valley of Fires in Carrizozo. Valley of Fires is special because the ground exploded and there are the same left-overs like when a volcano explodes. We walked in circle around the valley and at one point we actually got the chance to walk on top of the petrified lava. This was so amazing and I was very impressed. Our next stop we went to was Three Rivers Petroglyph. There are signs of Native Americans which are very well-preserved so that you can guess the meanings of them. We searched a few of them but there are over 21,000 petroglyphs at Three Rivers. Then we went to the Space Museum in Alamogordo. There we watched an IMAX Movie about our atmosphere and planets and after that we entered the museum. This time we had a guide which was very helpful. We could experience the vibration of the ground during the starting of a rocket and visit a temporally exhibition. There we could see the food of the astronauts, the first space toilet and heart-beats of an astronaut during the training for space. They also had a little Startrek-Exhibition. I really liked the museum because I am interested in space and rocket science. After visiting these things we went to White Sands. First we took a lot of pictures and enjoyed the sand which seems nearly white. Then we had a tour through the dunes with some other people. The guide told us about the animals living there and showed us a 2ft deep hole with water. First it surprised me because I was not expecting so much water in the desert but because of the growing plants there it makes sense. Punctually we arrived at a spot to see the sunset and again to take photos. The view was fantastic and because of that White Sands is my highlight of today. To end the day we went to Sonic and ate some burgers and fries.

Stay tuned and read on!
