Meeting the Amish People and the Cherokee

Hello!

Another day in Tulsa and another chance to learn new things. Today we did not go to school with our hosts. First we went to Choteau where the Amish people live. Amish people are living the life like it has been 300 years ago, which means they renouce electronic devices, cars and wear no jeans or sweaters. We looked around and admired a horse buggy with which they drive to service every sunday. Mr. Miller showed us where and how he and his family are living and tried to teach us their language Pennsylvania Dutch. It kind of resembled german but it was not easy to understand. After this meeting we went to the Amish Cheese House to have lunch. It was an all-you-can-eat buffet and it was pretty nice there. The next thing we visited was the Cherokee Heritage Center. There we informed ourselves about the history of the Cherokee Indians. A important part was the Trail of Tears, which is related to the expulsion of the Natives. It was well created and there was an art exhibition which showed Natives and other parts of their culture. After visiting the center we went to the Cherokee National Supreme Court Museum which was next to it. We were guided through the reproduction of the Indian village and met some people who were dressed like their ancestors. It was very interesting as well. To end the excursion we played Stickball which was very famous back then. So the guys have to play with two sticks and the girls play with their hands. The girls do not have to follow any rules but the guys are not allowed to hurt the girls in any possible way. The goal is to shed a metal fish on top of a long log. In the past this game was very brutal and a lot of people died of it. The girls won and the guys were not really happy about it. Then we drove back home and did individual things with our hosts. Me and my host watched series on Netflix.

Stay tuned and read on!
